A Snow Globe Service @ Central United Church Sanctuary

How many of you own a snow globe? At Christmas in our household, we bring out our snow globes and have a wonderful time shaking them, making the snowflakes swirl everywhere. We Canadians love our snow globes! That’s because we can sit in the warmth of our living rooms and watch the snow swirling INSIDE a bubble rather than being OUTSIDE where it is cold!
I like to imagine that all that snow swirling around in our snow globes is a reminder of God’s never ending love for us. Always swirling around us. Always bringing wonder. Always filling our lives with hope, peace and joy.

Music provided by the Possibility Singers and Heartsong. Bring the whole family!

When the Holidays Hurt – A Service of Light in the Midst of Darkness @ Central United Church Sanctuary

When the Holidays Hurt - A Service of Light in the Midst of Darkness @ Central United Church Sanctuary

For many of us, Christmas is a bittersweet time of year. It is a time for remembering both persons and events that have been a part of our lives in the past, but that are now changed or gone. This is the time of year with the longest nights, so around this time we offer a worship service that makes time for remembering, sharing our hurting places with God, and preparing our hearts for the coming of Christ. Join us for a time of special music, scripture, stories, refection, healing prayer.

Christmas Eve Family Service @ Central United Church

Christmas Eve Family Service @ Central United Church

THEME: A CHRISTMAS SOUND AND LIGHT SHOW
Christmas Eve has arrived! Can’t you feel angel wings rustling in the air? Can’t you hear the shepherds in the field talking quietly around a campfire? And those sheep—they are constantly making that baaaaahhhhhhhing sound that sheep always make! They, too, sense the splendour of this holy night. Welcome to the hills surrounding Bethlehem. Welcome to a smelly stable and a sky that is filled with starlight and singing angels. Welcome to Christmas Eve!

Music provided by the Possibility Singers and our worship band, Heartsong.

Christmas Eve Candlelight and Communion Service @ Central United Church Sanctuary
Dec 24 @ 9:00 pm
Christmas Eve Candlelight and Communion Service @ Central United Church Sanctuary

THEME: THE WAITING IS OVER!
Take time to celebrate the birth of our Saviour, Jesus Christ in the beauty of our candlelit Sanctuary. During the service you will take part in a ritual called “The Hanging of the Greens.” The ritual involves the placing of evergreen vegetation in the church in preparation for the arrival of the Christ Child on Christmas Eve! It is an ancient ritual that reminds us that, even as an evergreen tree stays forever green, so, too, is God’s love for us never ending.

We hope that you’ll join us – all are welcome!

What to Expect at the 10:30 service

Every Sunday morning at 10:30 am we enter a time of worship in our Spirited Traditional Gathering. Adults, young people, families and seniors all join together in this gathering and share a community worship experience. Children remain in the service until “A Time of Child Honouring” (September – June)

Following the Spirited Traditional Gathering there is always a time of fellowship and conversation in our lounge. You also have the opportunity for private or intercessory prayer in our Chapel immediately following the worship gathering.

Celebrate Life Recovery Gathering @ Sanctuary
Jan 6 @ 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm
Celebrate Life Recovery Gathering @ Sanctuary

Every Sunday for the last 25 years, a diverse group gathers in the Sanctuary for a time of worship that is unlike anything else. With music led by the amazing band – “The Cracked Pots” – you will experience what many call a “12 Step meeting with music”. Intentionally casual and friendly, this gathering is designed to support individuals and families who are on the journey of Recovery.

This 60-minute gathering is an opportunity to connect with others in Recovery, share in the Traditions and Steps of AA, and hear the message of Jesus’ unconditional love and reconciliation led by Brad Oneil, Peter Sheridan and others. You will feel completely at home grabbing a coffee, sharing a pew with both bikers and business people as we all celebrate the journey of Life Recovery.

Following the Celebrate Life Recovery Gathering is always a time of conversation in our lounge as well as an Open CA meeting (7:30 – 9:00 pm) in Room 1. The last Sunday of the month is especially unique as we celebrate our recovery birthdays (during the gathering).
