Membership at Central United Church is a formal commitment to Central and the United Church of Canada. In becoming a member, we ask you to step across the threshold to link heart, mind, spirit and voice with this faith community. It means deepening your relationship with this church and congregation, and exploring further what can be learned from the teachings of Jesus and their application in this 21st century world.
Membership is a process of discovery. Some people arrive at Central as seasoned veterans of the United Church, and others are newcomers who have found faith and a new faith community in Central that they can call home. As members, we have a mission. In the words of Paul to the Colossians: “As God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience.”
If you decide not to become an official member of Central, you are considered an “adherent.” An adherent is someone who is involved with the church, attends regularly, and may donate substantially, but hasn’t taken the steps to becoming a member. At Metropolitan, we have many adherents who are very important to our church life, but membership remains the key to a deeper involvement in the church community.
