Dear members, adherents and friends of Central United Church,
The Board of our church, in consultation with health information provided by AHS, has taken the prudent and caring step of cancelling worship services at Central this weekend. This includes both the morning and evening services, as well as the Annual Congregational Meeting that was planned for Sunday afternoon.
Many, perhaps, will see this decision as alarmist or an over reaction, however, health officials in this province have been adamant and clear in their instructions to the general population. Suspend social gatherings to help stop the spread. And help “flatten the curve” of a virus that has taken the lives of thousands of people around the world. When the virus reaches its peak, a huge demand for health services may result. We do not want to overload a health care system that is already running at maximum capacity and sometimes at over capacity. We want to ensure that everyone who needs treatment receives treatment.
That is part of the reason that we are cancelling services this weekend. We believe deeply in God’s admonition that we are indeed “our brother’s keeper.” We are at our finest, as God’s people, when we care for one another, even as Jesus did.
Thank you for your understanding in this matter. And may everyone of us who call ourselves a part of the Body of Christ offer prayers for frontline workers, including our doctors and nurses; all those in government who are grappling with this ever changing pandemic and, above all, for the people who are, at the present moment, suffering the consequences of being infected by this virus.
Yours in Christ,
Rev. Linda Hunter,
Central United Church
